I haven’t yet posted my support as an ally for Pride month. I originally posted this on Facebook, but I want to show my support here too as a standalone post.
While in Iceland, I managed to get lost following directions to a restaurant. Thankfully, I lost my way, because that’s how I discovered Rainbow Street in Reykjavik (pronounced rih-kih-vic). Not just a tiny token rainbow, but a long winding part of the road that stretches from downtown Reykjavik up to the magnificent Hallgrímskirkja Church.
“The street was originally painted in rainbow colors for Reykjavik Pride in 2015 to celebrate diversity and inclusivity. The rainbow became so loved by locals and visitors that it was made a permanent feature, symbolizing equality and love in Iceland.” The city repaints it every year before their Pride Events. I found it just before the repaint.
I dream of a future where love, dignity, and respect for every person outshine religious bigotry. While some extreme beliefs cling stubbornly to hate, I believe hearts can change. If more people truly absorbed the words of Jesus, his message of love and acceptance would finally take root. After all, those who claim to follow Christ should lead with compassion.
In the end, love always finds a way to triumph.
